There are many opportunities for bushwalking in the area ranging from easy to strenuous walks a world away from the streets of city life.
Parks Victoria manages Plenty Gorge Parklands which follows the Plenty River from North to South and forms the boundary of part of the municipality. There are several access points allowing easy entry into the parklands and a major re-development of trails and visitor amenities commenced during 2024.
City of Whittlesea manages over 5000 hectares of open space and parklands including the newly named bunjil nganga quarry hills regional park which includes a newly developed playground called Granite Hills Park and in future, the Aboriginal Gathering Place.
The Whittlesea Public Gardens comprises an area of 14.7 hectares of open grassland, conservation and wetlands. Look out for wetland birds, frogs and resident kangaroo’s. There are also many areas of dense native plantings which are ideal for creative nature play.
Kinglake National Park is at the northern edge of our municipality and includes scenic walks, thrilling mountain bike trails and picnics against the backdrop of panoramic views of the city, Port Phillip Bay, the Yarra Valley and across to the You Yangs.
